April Ross
April Ross, a beach volleyball star in the US, is among a select set of females who've been awarded medals at multiple Olympics. Alix klineman, who is competing for the first time at the Tokyo Olympics, will try to earn her third medal. But more than that, Ross is aiming to capture her very first Olympic gold. It could be the last opportunity she gets at age 39. But she's confident top awards can be achieved. Ross stated via NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and if we just play well I'm sure we'll win the gold medal." It's also going to be a matter of chance. Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in the year 1982. Her parents and sister resided there. Ross's athletic endeavors began at Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of activities. Her pre-athletic career comprised indoor volleyball as well as basketball, running and track. However, she was a standout in this sport. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker, outside setter and hitter on the volleyball court per her bio at the college. She was named the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. Also, in 2000 she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman have been doing what they do from 2017. But, Ross was an important player in the world of beach volleyball prior to the pair. She actually won multiple major tournaments with two different partners, one of whom is an icon of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 through 2013. Together, Kessy Ross was an ace on the international circuit winning the world championship in 2009. They eventually won a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team along with Kerri Jennings won the gold. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she retired. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. Following high school, and for a few years before she hit the sand professionally, Ross balled out to the Trojans at USC while an collegiate. Ross's time in the Trojans was impressive. As a freshmen in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman-of-the-Year honors. The Trojans could also reach the Final Four with her help. Her heart was broken by a personal tragedy during her sophomore year. However, she was able to make it an All-American again. The last two years with the Trojans' program the team was led to success by winning two consecutive national championships. The achievements of each individual have established her status as a legend in volleyball. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross studied at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the privilege of watching her daughter grow into a beach volleyball superstar. Ross's mom died from cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. As a result, Ross is still close to her deceased parent. Margie remains an inspiration on and off at the beach.
